How Can I Improve My Park?
The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), New York is a nonprofit organisation that uses design and art to demystify urban policy and planning issues, in a bid to encourage community participation. In collaboration with New Yorkers for Parks, Partnerships for Parks, designer Elana Schlenker, and illustrator Leslie Wood, the CUP team produced an intricately detailed poster that makes it easier for citizens to participate in development of parks in their area, by clearly listing the various agencies and officials involved in the process and ways to engage with them, as well as suggestions for ways to raise support and funding.
The narrative is easy to understand for people from different backgrounds, and is a great example of design bridging the gap through visualisation and enabling civic action. The poster can be bought or downloaded here.
